Become

a WAYA Coach

Calling all coaches! We need you! All WAYA coaches are volunteers and we appreciate all of the time and effort that our coaches put in to making WAYA a fun place to play. To assist, WAYA provides each coach with a Coaches' Handbook that includes important policies, procedures and valuable skills and practice plans. In addition, WAYA offers coaches' clinics for each sport. Join us today by completing a coaches' application - available for download or at the WAYA facility!

Double Goal

Coach

Waya is committed to the principles of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and is against the "win-at-all-cost" mentality. PCA calls a positive coach a "Double Goal" Coach. A win-at-all-cost coach only has one goal - to win. A positive coach shares that goal (to win), but has a second goal that is even more important - to use the sports experience to help young people to learn life lessons and gain positive character traits that will help them be successful throughout their lives.

Promoting this positive coach model, and honoring our WAYA coaches who exemplify this vision in our programs is the essence of the Golden Whistle Award. Coaches that exhibit these characteristics may be nominated by their players and parents at the end of each season. Each season, WAYA will select up to 5 Golden Whistle Award coaches from those nominated.

The coaches that are selected will receive:

  • Recognition on the WAYA Website
  • Recognition on a banner in the WAYA gymnasium
  • Recognition in the WAYA Sports Registration and Programs Guide
  • Free family dinner at Red Robin Restaurants

If you feel your coach exhibited these characteristics during the season, please nominate him or her for the Golden Whistle Award.
