- Are WAYA coaches certified in any manner?
-
Yes. All WAYA Coaches are required to complete the PCA "Double Goal Coach" course. WAYA is committed to the principles of Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) and is against the "win-at-all-cost" mentality. PCA calls a positive coach a "Double Goal" Coach. A win-at-all cost coach only has one goal - to win. A positive coach shares that goal (to win), but has a second goal that is even more important - to use the sports experience to help young people to learn life lessons and gain positive character traits that will help them be successful throughout their lives.
Each year, WAYA hosts a FREE PCA workshop for all WAYA coaches and parents. The focus of these workshops is to educate our coaches and parents on the principles of positive coaching. To read more about PCA please visit www.positivecoach.org.

- How does WAYA form teams?
-
- Players will be placed into a "Players Pool." Placement onto teams will be done with consideration towards even distribution of team sizes, location of players (neighborhood and/or school), an equal balance of talent and special requests in hardship cases. Hardship cases will be reviewed by the Executive Director as well as the sports Program Director. If a child has a parent that is a head or assistant coach the child will be placed on the same team as the parent.
- In the divisions where a draft is used all players must attend a skills assessment where they will be graded and placed on teams by league commissioners, WAYA staff, and an outside 3rd party.
- The League Commissioner is responsible for maintaining a fair balance of talent in his or her league. Preventing the "stacking" of teams is one of the primary jobs of the League Commissioner.
- Teams will be handed out to coaches at the first mandatory coaches meeting of the season. Team formations will be facilitated by the League Commissioner as well as the Athletic Director prior to the meeting.
- When a league is formed by WAYA staff and Commissioners, players are allowed to make up to 3 requests. They can ask to be placed with a specific coach, friend or school core group. These requests should be ranked 1, 2, & 3 in order of importance. All requests must be approved by the League Commissioner and Program Director. Every effort will be made to honor the players request but it is not guaranteed.
- Previous year's coaches (Head and Assistants) are not guaranteed a coaching position. The League Commissioner, Program Director and Executive Director will all weigh in on this decision.
- A team will be comprised of the following adult volunteer positions: Coach, Assistant coach and Team parent(s).

- Can my child play up a division?
-

Children who are not at the minimum age required by the league by the deadline will not be allowed to play during the season. Insurance does not cover and is not intended for those who do not meet the minimum age requirements.

- When will my child practice?
-
