About WAYA: General Information
Awards and Honors:
- Voted Best Youth Sports Program by readers of the Austin Chronicle every year since 2005.
- Nationally awarded the coveted Honor the Game award from Positive Coaching Alliance and Stanford University.
Admittance Policy:
League size is limited; therefore, registration deadlines are strictly enforced. Late registrants, if accepted, will be subject to a $25 late fee. Current WAYA members that register by the registration deadline are given priority over non-members that register by the registration deadline when registration numbers exceeds capacity. Once the registration deadline passes, members and non-members are accepted into the league on a first-come, first-served basis as space is available.
Team Formation:
WAYA teams are formed based on the age level of the participants. The general rule (there are exceptions - be sure to read the individual team formation policy for clarification by sport) is that teams are formed based on requests, school core groups and zips in the pee-wee and minor divisions (grades pre-K thru 2nd grade) and in the highschool division. Teams are formed by blind team placement based on a skills assessment in the junior, senior, super senior divisions (grades 3 - 8).
Coaches:
We need you! All WAYA coaches are volunteers and we appreciate all of the time and effort that our coaches put in to making WAYA a fun place to play. To assist, WAYA provides each coach with a Coaches' Handbook that includes important policies, procedures and valuable skills and practice plans. In addition, WAYA offers coaches' clinics for each sport. Join us today by completing a coaches' application - available online or at the WAYA facility!
Financial Aid:
All requests for financial aid made prior to the registration deadline will be honored; scholarship requests made after the registration deadline may not be honored. For financial aid, please complete the form on the Financial Aid page. WAYA will contact recipients after the registration deadline passes to notify them of the amount due. Money is allocated at the beginning of each fiscal year and the amount awarded is based upon the number of requests made per sport.
Refund Policy:
In the event of cancellation, a full refund will be given to those that cancel their registration prior to the registration deadline. Once the registration deadline has passed, a processing fee of $25 will be retained by the West Austin Youth Association. After the first game, registration is closed and refunds will not be awarded. Special cases must be approved by the Executive Director and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
