Academy: FAQs

What type of curriculum do you use?

We use a Theme-based curriculum that is fun for the children, while allowing the Teachers the opportunity to enhance children’s Gross Motor, Fine Motor, Social, Emotional, and Intellectual skills.  Children learn through play to learn to enhance thier cognitive skills. Lesson plans are posted in the classroom for you to review each week.

Our Pre-K Lead Teacher Miss Betsy is our Curriculum Director. Miss Betsy meets with our Lead Teachers in order to ensure Lesson Plans are Age appropriate, while also geared towards the progression toward Kindergarten readiness.

I have heard your waiting list is long. What is the likelihood my child will get in, and is it even worth filling out the wait list form?
Yes! It is always worth getting on the list. There is ALWAYS a chance that a spot will open up. However, again, we are unable to predict when that will happen. Please check with our director to see if we have a wait list for your child's class too. preschooldirector@waya.org close

Does becoming a member of WAYA help my chances of getting my child into the Academy?

No. We no longer take membership as a priority as of December 1st 2011. Please note, everyone must become a member upon enrollment in West Austin Youth Academy.

Waitlist priority goes in the following order: Siblings of currently enrolled students for a specific enrollment period and then new students.

Within each category, priority goes by the date of your waitlist registration. Therefore, the earlier you sign up the better!

Do the children enrolled in WAYA Preschool get the use of the entire WAYA facility?

Yes.  The children spend 45-60 minutes each day on the Playground.

Also, in the event of inclement weather or just for fun, the children use the gyms as a way to expend energy and practice gross motor skills.

Classes will also go on walking field trips when appriprate.  Pre-K and other classes will use the gymnastics space upstairs.
